At Kalakoa Creative Wellness, healing begins with expression.
Creative Wellness is our nonprofit initiative dedicated to supporting healing, growth, and transformation through storytelling, poetry, art, and fashion creation. We offer trauma-informed, culturally inspired programs that empower individuals in recovery, support personal and leadership development, uplift local designers, and inspire youth through creative expression.
Our work is grounded in the belief that creativity is not just enrichment—it is a pathway to emotional regulation, identity-building, and meaningful connection. Through structured, choice-based experiences, participants are invited to explore their stories safely, reconnect with their strengths, and integrate self-care into daily life.
Kalakoa Creative Wellness operates as a Healing, Growth & Transformation Ecosystem, offering programs that meet individuals and communities where they are whether they are seeking healing-focused recovery support, growth-oriented leadership development, or transformational retreat experiences. All offerings are non-clinical and designed to complement, not replace, traditional treatment, education, and workforce development services.
Our vision is to build a future where culture, creativity, and wellness intersect creating accessible spaces for reflection, resilience, and renewal. Through creative expression, we cultivate hope, opportunity, and connection across Hawaiʻi and beyond.
Kalakoa Creative Wellness exists to uplift lives through creativity, connection, and care.
We use art, fashion, storytelling, and creative expression as pathways for healing, growth, and self-discovery. Through our programs, we create safe, intentional spaces where individuals can reconnect with their identity, share their stories on their own terms, and access wellness in ways that feel empowering rather than clinical.
Our work is trauma-informed, culturally inspired, and community-driven. Whether on the runway, in a classroom, within a workshop, or inside a healing circle, we center restoration, resilience, and reconnection. Creativity becomes both the process and the outcome supporting emotional regulation, strengthening identity, and fostering a sense of belonging.
By meeting people where they are and honoring their lived experiences, Kalakoa Creative Wellness helps individuals and communities move from survival to self-expression, and from isolation to connection.
Our signature event during Merrie Monarch Week, Hānau Hou Arts & Fashion is a powerful platform that uplifts Indigenous designers, models, and creatives through storytelling and wearable art. More than a runway show, it is a cultural gathering that centers identity, resilience, and creative expression celebrating fashion as both art and healing.
Trauma-informed, hands-on workshops that use storytelling, art, and fashion creation as tools for healing, self-discovery, and connection. These sessions are designed to support emotional regulation, identity-building, and community belonging in ways that feel safe, accessible, and empowering. Workshops are offered across recovery, leadership, youth, and community wellness settings.
A creative pathway for emerging Indigenous designers and models to develop their voice, confidence, and professional skills. This program provides mentorship, creative guidance, and opportunities for visibility—supporting participants in accessing economic opportunities within the creative and fashion industries while staying grounded in cultural values and personal well-being.
Through events, workshops, and empowerment pathways, Kalakoa Creative Wellness transforms creativity into care and expression into opportunity.
